Abstract

Various aspects of the Ghadīr event have been studied and analyzed by Muslim and non-Muslim thinkers for many centuries. Great Shiite scholars have emphasized the certainty of its occurrence, its implication on Imamate and immediate caliphate of Ali علیه السلام; however, Sunni writers have different positions. Some of their great scholars admit its occurrence in their most authoritative books but some other, such as Ālūsī, have objected to the implication and chain of transmission of Ghadeer's hadith. The subject of this article is to examine and answer Ālūsī's objections in the Tafsīr Rūḥ al- Ma'ānī to Ḥadīth of al-Ghadīr. Despite the duty of researchers to respond to these flaws, a source was not found in which Ālūsī's objections, in Rūḥ al- Ma'ānī to Ḥadīth of al-Ghadīr, were collected and analyzed. Therefore, this article has investigated this important issue with a descriptive and analytical method and using library sources. The result is that Ālūsī considered the absence of Ḥadīth of al-Ghadīr in the aḥīḥayn as the reason for the invalidity of the hadith; and also, in the implication of the hadith, he makes several objections. He believes that the word Mawlā does not mean priority; and even if it means priority, it does not mean priority in possession; and assuming that it means priority in possession, it is related to the time of the caliphate of Imam Ali علیه السلام. According to Shia scholars and even some Sunni scholars, each of these objections has well-reasoned and convincing answers.
