Abstract

Verse 33 of Surah Al-Noor has three parts. In the third part, it is forbidden to force “fatayat” on adultery. According to the narrations about occasions of revelations, most of the interpreters up to ourtime translated“Fatayat” to the slave girls, and considered the meaning of the verse to be only a prohibition of forcing the slave girls into prostitution to earn money. If we interpret the verse in this way, the message of the verse is limited to the era of slavery, and with the disappearance of slavery, it no longer has this relevance. In this article, we examined the verse in a descriptive-analytical way. We concluded that if we connect this verse to the previous verse and research the meaning of the words “slave girls”, “compelling”, “prostitution”, and “keeping chaste”, the meaning of the verse will be that one cannot directly or indirectly force girls into prostitution. The result of examining this verse and criticizing existing interpretations is that the audience of this verse is everyone not just the slave owners, that is, parents, all believers, and officials. Everyone has been forbidden to raise the marriage portion, to prepare an expensive dowry, to ask for high academic degrees, etc. These actions cause the age of marriage to increase and as a result, prostitution spreads.
